LAKE COUNTY, FL – A teenage girl died after the car she was riding in was involved in a collision in Lake County early Saturday morning.
A report by WKMG states that the fatal accident took place on State Road 44 in the area of Tomahawk Trail near DeLand. The Florida Highway Patrol said that the driver of a 2011 Dodge Ram 15oo pickup truck was heading east at about 4:10 a.m. while a 2015 Dodge Charger sedan was going west, and the vehicles crashed. The front right side of the pickup truck collided with the front right of the sedan.
A 17-year-old Leesburg girl who was the front right passenger in the Charger was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Charger, an 18-year-old man from Fruitland Park, and two other passengers, an 18-year-old Fruitland Park man and a 17-year-old Leesburg girl, were taken to an area hospital with serious injuries.
The Dodge driver, a 43-year-old man from DeLand, was also hospitalized with serious injuries.
The wreck shut down all lanes of State Road 44 for over seven hours during the accident response and investigation.
