News: Woman, 46, dies after being hit by SUV on Spring Hill Drive

HERNANDO COUNTY, FL – A woman walking along Spring Hill Drive in Hernando County on Thursday night was fatally struck by a vehicle, state troopers said.

WTVT reports the accident happened east of Air Commerce Boulevard shortly after 7 p.m.  According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the victim was walking in the travel lanes of the roadway when she was struck by a westbound Toyota RAV4.  The victim, a 46-year-old woman from Montandon, Pennsylvania, was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital.  The SUV driver, a 64-year-old Thonotosassa woman, was not injured.

The driver told authorities she did not see the pedestrian initially and then tried to avoid hitting her, but could not.  The FHP said Spring Hill Drive was dark at the time and also wet from recent rainfall.
