News: 1 killed, another seriously injured after multi-vehicle crash on SR-44

LAKE COUNTY, FL – One person died and another was seriously hurt following a three-vehicle crash on State Road 44 in Eustis Tuesday evening.

According to WFTV, the fatal crash happened around 6:30 p.m. on State Road 44 near Donna Vista Place. A 22-year-old Sanford man was driving westbound in a Nissan Altima when he crossed the center lane into oncoming traffic.

He sideswiped an eastbound Honda Accord and then crashed head-on with an eastbound pickup truck.

The 22-year-old driver died at the scene.

The occupants of the Honda Accord were not injured.

A 56-year-old man from Eustis, who was driving the pickup, suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Central Florida Regional Medical Center.

The highway was closed in both directions as authorities investigated the incident.
