News: Collision between sedan and SUV on State Road 40 kills 2, injures 1

SILVER SPRINGS, FL – A crash between a sport utility vehicle and a sedan in Silver Springs Thursday left two people dead and and another injured, state troopers said.

The Ocala Star-Banner reports authorities were notified of the incident on State Road 40 East near Northeast 14th Street Road at about 1:30 p.m.

Investigators said a Hyundai Elantra and a Jeep Liberty were going in opposite directions at a curve in the roadway when the Hyundai drifted into the lane of the Jeep, resulting in a collision.  Two women in the Hyundai, ages 63 and 57, died after being transported to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital.  Both were residents of Silver Springs.

The other driver, a 19-year-old DeLand woman, was listed in serious condition at the same hospital.

The FHP is investigating the wreck and will determine whether speed was a contributing factor.
