LEESBURG, FL – A two-car collision in Lake County on Sunday afternoon claimed the life of an elderly driver, WESH reports.

The crash happened at the intersection of US 27 and Plantation Boulevard in Leesburg.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the driver of a sedan was headed south on US 27 in the inside lane at about 4:13 p.m., and was not able to stop in time for the traffic light.

The sedan crashed into the left side of an SUV that was going east on Plantation Boulevard and making a left turn onto US 27.  The 94-year-old driver of the SUV died after being taken to Blue Cedar Hospital.  The driver of the sedan, age 32, sustained injuries that were not life-threatening and was taken to Leesburg Hospital.

The FHP is continuing its investigation into the cause of the wreck.
