News: Driver dies after car crashes into home in Brooksville, catches fire

BROOKSVILLE, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol said a driver died after crashing into a home in Hernando County Wednesday morning.

According to WFTS, the accident happened on Fulton Avenue near Fox Sparrow Avenue in Brooksville shortly before noon. State troopers determined that a 57-year-old man was speeding in a Toyota Prius while heading west when he lost control of his car on a curve in the road.

The car went off the roadway, hit an embankment and a tree, and then plowed into a home on Fulton Avenue before catching fire.  The motorist, a Port Richey resident, was pronounced dead at the scene.  Two people in the house were not injured.

The crash, which caused major damage to the home, was captured on surveillance video from the camera of a neighbor.
