News: Man dies in crash after reportedly running stop sign in Hernando County

HERNANDO COUNTY, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol said one person was killed and two others injured in a collision in Hernando County on Sunday night.

A report in The Suncoast News said the accident happened at the intersection of U.S. 301 and Cornerstone Drive.

According to the FHP, a man was driving a sedan east on Cornerstone Drive when he drove through a stop sign at the intersection at about 8:35 p.m.  The sedan entered the path of an SUV going south on U.S. 301 and was struck by the vehicle.  Both vehicles came to rest along the east shoulder of the roadway.

The driver of the sedan, a 77-year-old man from Dade City, died at the scene.  Two passengers in the SUV, a 39-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl, sustained minor injuries.  The SUV driver, a 39-year-old Tampa man, and a 15-year-old male passenger were not injured.
