News: Pedestrian dies after being struck by vehicle in Tarpon Springs area

TARPON SPRINGS, FL – A woman walking along a roadway in Pinellas County was struck and killed by a vehicle Sunday evening, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Authorities responded to the scene in the vicinity of Oakmont Avenue and Anclote Boulevard in the Tarpon Springs area after the incident took place at about 5:20 p.m.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the driver of a car going north on Oakmont Avenue failed to yield to a westbound sport utility vehicle at the intersection stop sign.  The vehicles collided, causing the SUV to strike the pedestrian as she walked on the shoulder of Anclote Boulevard.

The pedestrian, a 42-year-old woman from Dickson, Tennessee, was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital.

The two women who were driving the vehicles and two passengers in the SUV were not injured in the accident.  There was no immediate word on whether any charges would be filed in the case.
