News: Pedestrian fatally struck by car while walking on US 192 in Lake County


CLERMONT, FL – Authorities said a woman walking on U.S. Highway 192 in Lake County was struck and killed by a car early Sunday morning.

According to the Leesburg-News, the incident took place near Town Center Boulevard in Clermont. A report from the Florida Highway Patrol indicated that a woman was walking south across the westbound lanes of U.S. 192 shortly before 4:30 a.m. when she entered the path of a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro.

The pedestrian, a 37-year-old Davenport woman, was hit by the vehicle and died at the scene.  The driver of the Camaro, a 21-year-old woman, stayed at the scene following the crash.

The FHP said the pedestrian was not walking in a marked crosswalk at the time the accident occurred.
