LARGO, FL – A two-vehicle collision in Largo Saturday afternoon left three people dead and two others injured, including a college football player.

According to the Miami Herald, the fatal wreck occurred in the area of Orangeview Drive and Ridge Road at about 1:45 p.m.

Police said 20-year-old Adarius Hayes, a linebacker at the University of Miami, was driving a Dodge Durango SUV south on Ridge Road when he collided with the driver of a Kia Soul SUV making a left turn.

The Kia driver, identified as 78-year-old Gail Price, and two boys with her, ages 10 and 4, were killed.  Another passenger in the Kia, a 58-year-old man, was seriously injured.  Hayes, who grew up in Largo, was hospitalized with injuries that were not life-threatening.

No criminal charges were pending in the case and police said there were no signs of impairment on the part of either driver.

All of Ridge Road from Ulmerton Road to 8th Avenue was shut down for several hours while the scene was being cleared and investigated.  Hayes appeared in 11 games last season as a freshman for the University of Miami.
