Teenage girl riding scooter struck by hit-and-run driver in Wesley Chapel

WESLEY CHAPEL, FL – Authorities are trying to locate the driver who struck and injured a teenage girl in Pasco County last Thursday morning, Pasco News Online reports.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the 17-year-old victim was crossing the street on an electric scooter at Oldwoods Avenue and Tonka Terrace in Wesley Chapel when she was hit by a northbound sedan at about  7 a.m.

The driver reportedly did not stop at a posted stop sign prior to the collision  The girl, who was in a marked crosswalk at the time, was hospitalized with a broken arm.

She told investigators that the driver stopped briefly to find out how she was, then fled the scene going west on Oldwoods Avenue.

The FHP said the vehicle involved was an older model gray sedan believed to have sustained front-end damage, and the driver was described as a white male in his 20s or 30s with shaggy brown hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information that could help locate the driver was asked to contact the FHP.
