News: 1 dead, 1 injured after motorcycles collide near Belleview

BELLEVIEW, FL – One man was killed and another injured when their motorcycles collided in Marion County Saturday night.

According to a report by WKMG, the two motorcyclists were both headed south on SE 100th Avenue near Belleview at 11:50 p.m.  The Florida Highway Patrol said one of the riders approached the other that was going more slowly and struck the bike from behind, causing both motorcycles to overturn.

The first motorcyclist, a 63-year-old Weirsdale man, was pronounced dead at the scene.  The other rider, a 55-year-old Summerfield man, was seriously injured and taken to a hospital.

Neither driver was believed to have been wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, state troopers said.
