MARION COUNTY, FL – A crash involving a truck and a minivan in Marion County left two people dead and three others injured, according to the Ocala StarBanner.

The vehicles collided Wednesday morning in the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 near the exit for County Road 318.

The Florida Highway Patrol said a minivan traveling in the center lane clipped the left front tire of a semi in the right outside lane.  The minivan went off the roadway, onto a grass shoulder, hit two trees and caught fire.   The driver, a 49-year-old woman, and a passenger, a 15-year-old boy, died at the scene.  Both were from Miami.  Another passenger, a 23-year-old woman from Miami, was seriously injured while two children, ages 2 and 1, sustained minor injuries.  The injured were taken to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville.

MARION COUNTY, FL – A crash involving an SUV and a motorcycle left two people dead on Friday night, WKMG reported.

The vehicles collided in the area of State Road 25 and SE 104th Trail at about 1o p.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The FHP said the driver of the SUV was turning left at the intersection but did not check for traffic and crashed into a motorcycle heading east on SR-25.  A 25-year-old man and 22-year-old woman on the motorcycle were ejected from the bike, and both died at the scene.

UMATILLA, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol released details of a fatal bicycle accident that took place in Umatilla early Wednesday morning, according to WKMG.

The FHP said a pedal cyclist was riding on SE 248th Terrace in Umatilla when the incident happened at about 6 a.m.  The bicyclist was struck from behind by a vehicle near County Road 42.

The victim, a 28-year-old man from Umatilla, suffered fatal injuries.  The driver of the vehicle, a 37-year-old man, was not injured in the incident.

MARION COUNTY, FL – One person was killed and six others injured in a collision on Interstate 75 in Marion County Wednesday night, WKMG reports.

The incident took place along I-75 south about four miles north of State Road 326.  The Florida Highway Patrol’s investigation determined that a van had become disabled in the center lane of the interstate at about 10 p.m. as the result of a prior crash.

Another driver heading south on I-75 did not see the van in time and crashed into the back of it.  The 71-year-old van driver died after being taken to an area hospital.  His five passengers, three women and two men all in their 70s, were hospitalized with serious injuries.  All occupants of the van were from Ocala.

MARION COUNTY, FL – Three people were injured in a collision involving a Marion County Fire Rescue ambulance on Tuesday morning.

According to the rescue squad’s Facebook post, the accident happened in the vicinity of SW 83d Ave Road and SW Highway 484 at 8:55 a.m.  Rescue crews arrived to find that an ambulance had been involved in a head-on crash with a passenger vehicle, with both vehicles ending up on the side of the road.  The ambulance had been responding to a routine medical call prior to the accident.

The driver of the car was trapped in the wreckage and extricated by rescuers, then was taken to an area trauma hospital.  Marion County Fire Rescue said two of its first responders were evaluated at the scene and taken to an area hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.  The two, a firefighter paramedic and firefighter EMT, were in stable condition.

MARION COUNTY, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal collision that took place in Marion County last week, the Ocala StarBanner reported.

Two vehicles, a Toyota Corolla and a Mitsubishi Outlander SUV, were involved in the wreck on County Road 314 in Scrambletown on Feb. 2.

According to the FHP, the driver of the Toyota was going east sometime before 10 a.m. when she crossed over the double yellow line and veered into the westbound lane.  The Toyota collided head-on with the westbound Mitsubishi.

MARION COUNTY, FL – Three people were killed when a woman stole a Marion County Sheriff deputy’s vehicle last week and crashed, according to a WSVN report.

Authorities said 33-year-old Kendra Boone was able to get into the vehicle after deputies had responded to a shopping mall in Silver Springs on a report that a woman had tried to steal another person’s keys.  Boone then sped away from the parking lot with deputies pursuing her at speeds that reached up to 100 miles per hour.

They attempted to deploy stop sticks but Boone continued on and eventually lost control of the vehicle on State Road 40.  There she swerved into the opposite lanes of traffic and crashed into a pickup truck with three people inside.

MARION COUNTY, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol has released details of a fatal motorcycle accident that occurred Saturday night in Marion County, WKMG reports.

The crash, which involved a motorcycle and two other vehicles, occurred in the area of U.S. Highway 41 and SW 54th Street.

The FHP’s report said a 58-year-old Dunnellon woman driving an SUV was trying to turn left from the highway onto SW 54th Street at about 7:15 p.m. and entered the path of the motorcyclist, resulting in a collision.  Another SUV behind the motorcycle crashed into it.

MARION COUNTY, FL – One person was killed and four others were injured in a collision in Marion County on Saturday morning, WJXT reported.

The crash happened at the intersection of US-441 and Northwest 85th Loop at about 9:30 a.m.  According to the Florida Highway Patrol’s investigation, a woman was driving east on NW 85th Loop and made a left turn in the southbound lanes of US-441, violating the right of way of a pickup truck.

The pickup hit the left side of the woman’s car.  The woman, a 76-year-old resident of The Villages, was pronounced dead at an area hospital.  She was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, the FHP said.

MARION COUNTY, FL – Rescue units were dispatched to the scene of a multi-vehicle collision in Marion County last week.

In a news release, Marion County Fire Rescue said it responded to reports of a head-on crash involving three vehicles on County Road 326 Thursday at about 1:30 p.m.  Crews found one car with heavy damage and two others with moderate damage.

Firefighters worked to remove one of the vehicles in order to extricate a driver trapped in a sedan next to it.  That driver was rushed to an area hospital as a trauma alert.  Two other people were hospitalized with injuries that were not life-threatening.
