News: 2 dead, 1 injured after vehicles collide on SE 36th Avenue in Ocala

OCALA, FL – The Ocala Police Department said a two-vehicle collision on Tuesday night left two people dead and another hospitalized.

Officers responded to the scene near the 1500 block of Southeast 36th Avenue after being notified of the incident at about 8:23 p.m.

A Mazda Miata and a Mercedes-Benz SUV collided and the Mazda went up in flames.  A man and a woman in the car were both pronounced dead at the scene.  A 17-year-old boy reported to have been driving the SUV was seriously injured and taken to an area hospital.

The roadway was shut down until late Wednesday morning while the wreck was being cleared and investigated.

Anyone with information or surveillance footage of the incident was asked to contact Ocala police.
