News: Driver hospitalized after accident on U.S. 441 in Leesburg

LEESBURG, FL – Police and first responders were on the scene of a serious accident on U.S. Highway 441 in Leesburg Wednesday afternoon.

In a Facebook post, Leesburg Fire Rescue said the two-vehicle crash occurred in front of Cecil Clark Chevrolet at about 2 p.m. Emergency crews arrived to find two vehicles with major damage and the driver of one of the vehicles, a jeep, was trapped inside.

Rescue crews extricated the driver out of the passenger side of the vehicle, and the victim was airlifted to a local trauma center.  Other patients were treated at the scene.

Traffic was diverted from southbound U.S. Highway 441 to northbound U.S. Highway 441, which was condensed down to two lanes. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
