LEESBURG, FL – Police said an elderly pedestrian was killed in an accident in Leesburg on Christmas night.

WKMG reports the victim was identified as 80-year-old Gladys Lopez.  She was walking across the intersection of Dixie Avenue and Euclid Avenue when the incident took place at about 7:44 p.m.

According to investigators, Lopez was struck by a Kia sedan going east on Dixie Avenue in the right lane, then was hit again by another eastbound vehicle, a Hyundai sedan.  The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

LEESBURG, FL – A driver has been arrested for a fatal accident in Leesburg last week, reports the Leesburg News.

36-year-old Gustavo Martinez Cortez of Eustis was arrested on a third-degree felony charge of driving without a license.

The Nov. 7 crash involved a total of four vehicles, and occurred in the area of County Road 44 and North Silver Lake Road.  Authorities said Cortez crashed into the back of a Toyota Corolla.  The collision killed the driver of the Corolla, a 42-year-old man from Eustis.  A semi-truck and a Mitsubishi Mirage were also involved in the wreck.  The driver of the Mirage, a 23-year-old Deland woman, sustained minor injuries.

LEESBURG, FL – State troopers said a motorcyclist died after a collision in Leesburg, and a woman who stopped to help was injured in a separate crash.

The Leesburg-News reports the initial incident took place on County Road 473 near California Street shortly before 10:30 Oct. 1.  According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the driver of a pickup truck was turning left into a gas station when he entered the path of a Harley-Davidson Street Glide motorcycle, resulting in a collision.  The motorcycle rider, a 57-year-old Leesburg man, was ejected from his bike and pronounced dead at the scene.

A woman driving by the scene got out of her car to try and assist the motorcyclist, the FHP said.  At that point another woman driving a Buick Century north on County Road 473 struck the motorcycle, which was pushed into both the motorcyclist and the woman attempting to help.

LEESBURG, FL – Authorities said a driver was rushed to the hospital following a high-speed collision in Leesburg on Monday night.

According to the Daily Commercial, a young man was driving a Jaguar at a speed estimated at over 100 miles an hour when the incident occurred at about 6:25 p.m. in the area of Martin Luther King Drive and U.S. Highway 441/27.  The Jaguar collided with a Cadillac Escalade at the intersection and then struck the side of the Northgate Animal Clinic, where it came to rest.  Car parts were scattered throughout the area.

The Jaguar driver, reported to be 18 years old, was extricated from the wreck and flown to Ocala Regional Medical Center.  No details were available on his condition.  A witness said two people in the Cadillac, a man and a woman, did not appear to have been injured.

LEESBURG, FL – Police and first responders were on the scene of a serious accident on U.S. Highway 441 in Leesburg Wednesday afternoon.

In a Facebook post, Leesburg Fire Rescue said the two-vehicle crash occurred in front of Cecil Clark Chevrolet at about 2 p.m. Emergency crews arrived to find two vehicles with major damage and the driver of one of the vehicles, a jeep, was trapped inside.

Rescue crews extricated the driver out of the passenger side of the vehicle, and the victim was airlifted to a local trauma center.  Other patients were treated at the scene.

LEESBURG, FL – One person was injured after a crash in Lake County this past Monday, reports local media.

Emergency crews responded to a crash on County Road 468 to find an unidentified person entrapped in their vehicle.

Once they freed the victim, they were rushed to a local trauma center.
