News: Leesburg woman killed when SUV crashes into fences on County Road 42

by

MARION COUNTY, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol said a woman was killed in a fiery car accident in Marion County early Saturday morning.

According to the Ocala StarBanner, the crash took place on County Road 42 near Southeast 283rd Avenue in Umatilla just after 3 a.m.  The FHP said the victim was driving east in a Subaru Crosstrek SUV when she drove off the north side of the roadway.  The vehicle collided with four fences, stopped and caught fire, trapping the driver inside.

A passing motorist tried to help the victim get out of the vehicle but could not because of the flames.  The driver of the SUV, a 52-year-old Leesburg woman, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers are continuing to investigate the wreck, but do not believe speed was a contributing factor.
