ALACHUA COUNTY, FL – A man has been sentenced in connection with a fatal DUI accident in Alachua County, WCJB reports.

On Tuesday, a judge sentenced 40-year-old Jason Saul of Gainesville to 90 months in prison.  Saul, who was convicted of DUI manslaughter in the Jan. 22, 2021 crash, will also have to serve 90 months of probation.

Authorities said Saul was driving a pickup truck when he crashed into the back of another pickup that was stopped at a red light on U.S. Highway 441 south of Northwest 43rd Street.  The wreck caused the death of the other driver, Andra Paul Driggers.

Witnesses reported seeing Saul leave the driver’s seat of his car following the collision.    Blood samples showed he was impaired at the time of the crash and had cocaine in his system.  Data revealed he was driving between 63 and 74 miles per hour in a 50 mile per hour zone prior to hitting the pickup.

Under the terms of a plea agreement, Saul received 299 days of jail credit for time already served and will have to complete a substance abuse course, 100 hours of community service, and random drug and alcohol screenings. His driver’s license will be permanently revoked.
