MARION COUNTY, FL – Three people were injured in a collision involving a Marion County Fire Rescue ambulance on Tuesday morning.

According to the rescue squad’s Facebook post, the accident happened in the vicinity of SW 83d Ave Road and SW Highway 484 at 8:55 a.m.  Rescue crews arrived to find that an ambulance had been involved in a head-on crash with a passenger vehicle, with both vehicles ending up on the side of the road.  The ambulance had been responding to a routine medical call prior to the accident.

The driver of the car was trapped in the wreckage and extricated by rescuers, then was taken to an area trauma hospital.  Marion County Fire Rescue said two of its first responders were evaluated at the scene and taken to an area hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.  The two, a firefighter paramedic and firefighter EMT, were in stable condition.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
