News: Woman crossing U.S. 19 in wheelchair struck and killed by vehicle

PASCO COUNTY, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol released information regarding a collision in Pasco County that claimed the life of a woman in a wheelchair early Saturday morning.

According to WFTS, the fatal accident occurred at the intersection of U.S. 19 and Trouble Creek Road shortly before 1 a.m.  The FHP said the victim was trying to cross U.S. 19 in her wheelchair despite having a red pedestrian traffic signal.  She was struck by a northbound Mercedes sedan that had a green traffic light.

The woman, a 60-year-old resident of New Port Richey, died after being transported to an area hospital.  The driver of the Mercedes was a 46-year-old man from Tampa.
