OCALA, FL – A multi-vehicle accident in Ocala on Wednesday afternoon sent two people to the hospital and disrupted traffic along Interstate 75.

According to Ocala Fire Rescue, crews responded to the scene on I-75 just north of mile marker 352 at 3:49 p.m.  A semi-truck carrying corn was reportedly heading south and experienced a tire failure, causing the vehicle to veer into oncoming traffic.

Emergency crews arrived to find the semi had overturned and come to rest on top of a Honda Civic that was traveling north.  Three other semi-trucks were involved in the wreck, with one of them hitting the back of the overturned semi.  The other two semis were involved in a rear-end collision.

OCALA, FL – The Ocala Police Department was dispatched to a fatal pedestrian accident near the Paddock Mall early Thursday morning.

In a Facebook post, police said they were notified of the incident on SW College Road at 5:39 a.m.  A preliminary investigation found that an SUV traveling eastbound struck a pedestrian in the roadway.  Police and rescue crews responded and found the victim, age 65, dead in the eastbound lanes.  The person’s identity was not immediately released as authorities worked to notify the family.

The driver of the SUV was not injured but was hospitalized as a precaution.

OCALA, FL – Two people who formed a well-known radio team in Ocala have died following a vehicle collision last month, the Ocala StarBanner reports.

The victims were Robin MacBlane and Larry Whitler, both age 70, who were together in a vehicle involved in a crash at State Road 200 and Southwest 103rd Street Road on July 17.   Whitler died that day while MacBlane passed away from her injuries on Saturday, August 9.

The Florida Highway Patrol said MacBlane was driving a sedan on westbound SR 200 at about 7:24 p.m. and was making a left turn onto Southwest 103rd Street Road when the vehicle was struck in the intersection by a pickup truck going east on SR 200.

OCALA FL – A collision in Marion County on Thursday evening left one person dead and two others injured, the Ocala StarBanner reports.

The Florida Highway Patrol was called to the scene at the intersection of State Road 200 and Southwest 103rd Street Road in Ocala after the fatal crash occurred at about 7:24 p.m.  The FHP’s initial investigation determined that the driver of a pickup truck was heading east in the right lane on SR-200 and failed to stop at a red light.

The pickup crashed into the passenger side of a sedan that was heading west in the left lane of SR-200 and trying to turn onto SW 103rd Street Road.  A passenger in the sedan, a 70-year-old Ocala man, was pronounced dead after being taken to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital.  The sedan driver, also a 70-year-old Ocala resident, was hospitalized in serious condition.

OCALA, FL – Crews came to the rescue of a pickup truck driver following a rollover accident in Ocala on Thursday afternoon.

According to a post by Ocala Fire Rescue, first responders were dispatched to the wreck on Southwest Sixth Place at about 1:43 p.m.    The emergency crews arrived to find an SUV upright with three occupants and a pickup truck on its roof with the driver trapped inside.

The rescuers stabilized the overturned pickup, used extrication tools to open the driver’s door, and allowed the driver to safely exit the vehicle.  The driver was taken to an area hospital to be evaluated.  No other injuries were reported.

OCALA, FL – Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene of a vehicle crash at a home in Ocala on Monday morning.

According to a post by Ocala Fire Rescue at 2:42 p.m., the incident occurred in the 1000 block of NE 14th Street.  Officials said a pickup truck collided with a sedan, causing the sedan to crash through the exterior wall of a home.

Responding rescue crews opened the doors of the vehicles and safely extricated both drivers.  The pickup truck driver was transported to an area hospital with undisclosed injuries.  The home was empty at the time of the incident, and no other injuries were reported.

OCALA, FL – The Ocala Police Department responded to a fatal crash in the 1700 block of U.S. 441 early Sunday morning, according to the department’s Facebook post.

A traffic homicide investigator arrived at the scene at about 2:43 a.m.  It was determined that the driver of a Mazda minivan was heading north while reportedly driving recklessly at a high rate of speed.  The Mazda went off the roadway, hit a concrete culvert and went airborne.  The vehicle then overturned before colliding with a palm tree and a concrete wall.

The driver was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.  The victim’s identity was not immediately released.

OCALA, FL – The Ocala Police Department was called to the scene of a vehicle vs. bicycle collision on Saturday, WCJB reported.

The bicyclist was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of State Road 200 and Southwest 27th Avenue, investigators said.  The rider was taken to an area hospital with what were reported to be life-threatening injuries.

Traffic was being diverted in both directions on State Road 200 while police and emergency crews were responding to the accident.

OCALA, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol was dispatched to a fatal car accident that occurred near Ocala on Saturday night.

According to WKMG, the single-vehicle wreck happened along Interstate 75 near County Road 484 at about 9:35 p.m.

The FHP’s preliminary investigation indicates that the driver of an SUV was heading north in the right lane of I-75 and lost control of the vehicle.  The SUV went off the right side of the road, onto a grass shoulder, and crashed into the concrete base of a light pole, causing the vehicle to catch fire.

MARION COUNTY, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol was dispatched to a fatal pedestrian collision in Marion County Sunday night, WKMG reported.

According to the FHP, the accident happened on U.S. 441 near SE 3rd Avenue at about 9:35 p.m.   A driver going south on US 441 struck a man who was standing in the outside lane of the roadway near SE 3rd Avenue.

The man, a 52-year-old Ocala resident, died at the scene.  The driver, a 27-year-old woman from Reddick, was not injured in the incident.
