WILDWOOD, FL – State troopers said a man was killed when a vehicle slammed into a parked truck on an Interstate 75 entrance ramp Tuesday afternoon.

A report by the Villages-News said the crash occurred on the ramp from State Road 44 at 3:46 p.m. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the driver of a Nissan Rogue was heading northbound on the ramp when the vehicle hit a tractor-trailer that was parked on the paved east shoulder and the Nissan struck the truck’s trailer.

A passenger in the Nissan, a 25-year-old man from Wildwood, was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital.  The Nissan driver, a 22-year-old Wildwood man, sustained minor injuries.  The truck driver was not injured.

SUMTER COUNTY, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol is conducting a search for the driver responsible for the death of a pedestrian Saturday morning in Sumter County.

According to WKMG, the victim was struck by a vehicle while walking in the southbound inside lane of U.S. 301 near County Road 102.  The pedestrian, a 63-year-old man from Lake Mary, was found dead by responding state troopers at about 8 a.m.

The driver involved fled the scene of the crash but parts of the vehicle were left behind.  Based on the evidence that was found, the FHP described the vehicle they are looking for as a 1992-97 Ford Bronco or F-Series Ford pickup truck of unknown color that was traveling south on U.S. 301 and would be missing its left front headlight housing.

SUMTER COUNTY, FL – One person was killed and four others injured in a collision in Sumter County Wednesday evening, reports the Villages-News.

The Florida Highway Patrol was called to the scene on State Road 471 in the vicinity of State Road 50 near Tarrytown.  An investigation by state troopers found that a man driving a Ford Focus south at about 7 p.m. lost control of the vehicle and crossed over the center line.  The Focus crashed into a Nissan Rogue headed northbound on State Rod 471, causing both vehicles to overturn.

The driver of the Focus, a 37-year-old man from Floral City, died at the scene.  He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

SUMTER COUNTY, FL – State troopers released details of a fatal multi-vehicle collision that took place in Sumter County on Tuesday afternoon.

The Villages News reports a man was driving a Subaru Outback on State Road 50 when he lost control of the vehicle.  According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the Subaru entered the path of a Chevy C1500 pickup truck and collided with the vehicle nearly head-on.  The Subaru kept going and crashed into a Honda Pilot.

The Chevy pickup truck overturned multiple times and the driver, a 49-year-old man from Lacoochee, was pronounced dead at the scene.  The driver of the Subaru, a 51-year-old Dade City man, the driver of the Honda, a 45-year-old man from Mascotte, and two female passengers in the Honda were not injured.

WILDWOOD, FL – Two drivers were injured in a collision involving a stolen vehicle in Sumter County Wednesday morning, WTVT reported.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the incident began when troopers attempted a traffic stop on the driver of a stolen Ford F-250 who was seen speeding and driving recklessly on I-75 in Wildwood just before 4:15 a.m.

The FHP said the driver kept going and took off onto State Road 44.  After exiting the roadway, the fleeing driver turned around and crashed into a tractor-trailer making a left turn into the Pilot Travel Center in roadway.  Both vehicles ended up in the center’s parking lot.

SUMTER COUNTY, FL – A tractor-trailer and a pickup truck were involved in a fatal collision in Sumter County early Thursday morning, according to WKMG.

The Florida Highway Patrol’s crash report said the pickup truck driver was going east on County Road 476 at about 4:50 a.m., and failed to yield to the semi-truck headed north on State Road 471.  The pickup crashed into the undercarriage of the semi at the intersection.

The pickup driver, a 29-year-old man from Crystal River, was pronounced dead at the scene.  No injuries were reported for the other driver, a 63-year-old Coleman man.

SUMTER COUNTY, FL – The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office and the Villages Public Safety Department were called to the scene of a car accident on Monday morning, the Villages-News reports.

It happened on County Road 466 near Morse Boulevard at about 9:26 a.m.  Authorities said the driver of an SUV was heading west in the left lane when the vehicle went off the roadway and crashed into a tree in the median.

The airbags deployed and the four occupants of the vehicle escaped injury.  No citations were issued in the incident, the sheriff’s office said.

HAWKINS, FL – A man was sentenced in connection with a hit-and-run crash in the Villages last month, reports The Villages-News.

36-year-old Mark Regan of Pennsylvania was arrested on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident after the incident that occurred May 1 in the area of State Road 44 and Powell Road.

Police said Regan was driving a Mazda 3 when he struck the back of a trailer being towed by a truck at about 3 p.m.

SUMTER COUNTY, FL – A collision in Sumter County on Saturday morning left three people dead and another injured, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

According to WFLA, the crash occurred on State Road 471 near South Grade Road.  An investigation indicated that a man driving a sedan on SR-471 near the Green Swamp Wilderness Preserve veered into the opposite lane at about 4 a.m.  His vehicle crashed into another sedan nearly head-on.

The driver of the first car, a 42-year-old Winter Haven man, and the driver of the second vehicle along with a 54-year-old female passengers all were killed in the accident.  Another passenger in the second sedan, a 47-year-old man, was seriously injured.  All three occupants of the second car were residents of Lima, Ohio.

SUMTER COUNTY, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol said four people were injured after two vehicles collided at a Sumter County intersection early Sunday morning.

According to WKMG, the crash happened at State Road 44 and Morse Boulevard at about 4:15 a.m.

The FHP said the driver of a sedan was going at high speed while headed east on State Road 44 and went through a red light at the intersection.  The sedan collided with an SUV going south on Morse Boulevard, causing both vehicles to end up on the south shoulder of State Road 44.
