PALM HARBOR, FL – A man is under arrest in connection with a fatal car accident that occurred in Palm Harbor on Feb. 19, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, 19-year-old Chase Cannone is facing charges of DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide in the case.  Investigators said Cannone was driving a Ford Mustang at high speed on Alderman Road near Bentley Drive when a Hyundai Accent making a turn entered his path and the vehicles collided.

The driver of the Accent, a 32-year-old New Port Richey man, and his passenger, a 30-year-old Palm Harbor woman, were pronounced dead at the scene.  Cannone, a Clearwater resident, was seriously injured.

The arrest report stated that Cannone told state troopers he had smoked marijuana earlier that morning, and a toxicology report was positive for THC.

Cannone was taken to Pinellas County Jail last week and was released on $20,000 bail.
