MARION COUNTY, FL – A two-vehicle collision in Marion County Saturday afternoon claimed the lives of both drivers, authorities said.

According to WCJB, deputies with the Florida Highway Patrol responded to the scene on SE Maricamp Road at about 2:15 p.m. and found the two victims in their cars.

An investigation determined that a 71-year-old woman was driving on the roadway when she crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a car driven by a 79-year-old man.

The woman, an Ocklawaha resident, was pronounced dead at the scene while the man, a Leesburg resident, died after being taken to an area hospital.  There were no other occupants in the vehicles.
