HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL – A man is facing DUI and manslaughter charges in connection a crash that claimed the life of a Zephyrhills woman on Tuesday night.
According to a report by the Tampa Free Press, the crash happened at about 10 p.m. in the northbound lanes of I-75 near milepost 268.
Troopers believe the driver of a Honda Accord, 31-year-old Michael Troy Jones, struck a Chevrolet Cruz driven by a 25-year-old man from Zephyrhills. The Chevrolet then struck the median before colliding with a tree.
A passenger in the Chevrolet, a 25-year-old woman, suffered fatal injuries in the crash. The driver was hospitalized with serious injuries.
A third vehicle was also involved in the crash. The occupants of that car suffered only minor injuries.
Jones was taken into custody and booked into the Hillsborough County Jail on charges of DUI Manslaughter and DUI Serious Injury.
