PASCO COUNTY, FL – A collision in Pasco County on Thursday morning claimed the life of a teenage bicycle rider, WESH reports.

The victim, a 15-year-old boy, was riding near the intersection of Kitten Trail and Thompson Avenue when the incident took place at about 6:30 a.m.

As the bicyclist was headed eastbound in the travel lane, a man driving a Dodge Charger approached and tried to avoid a collision but struck the rear of the bicycle, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The boy, a Hudson resident, was pronounced dead after being transported to an area hospital.  The FHP said he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The investigation further indicated that the bicyclist had been riding with no lights on along the dark, unlighted roadway.
