OCALA, FL – The Ocala Police Department said a bicyclist died after being hit by a vehicle Saturday evening.

Police posted details of the incident that took place near the 1400 block of Northwest 27th Avenue just north of Rural King just before 6:15 p.m.  Witnesses said a bicyclist was laying down stationary in the southbound travel lane next to his bike.

One driver swerved to the left to avoid hitting him, but another vehicle right behind hit the bicycle rider.  The victim, a 67-year-old man, was trauma-alerted to the hospital and was pronounced dead.

Police are investigating the crash, which occurred on a dimly lit roadway.  It was Ocala’s 16th traffic-related fatality this year.
