News: Collision between sedan and pickup on State Road 40 kills 1, injures 3

MARION COUNTY, FL – State troopers said a pickup truck and a sedan were involved in a deadly crash in Marion County, Ocala News.com reports.

The vehicles collided Sunday night on State Road 40 near County Road 314 in Silver Springs just after 8:30 p.m.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a pickup truck going west on State Road 40 veered into oncoming traffic and crashed into an eastbound sedan.

The driver of the pickup, a 52-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene.  His passenger, a 48-year-old woman, was critically injured and taken to an area hospital.  Both were Ocala residents.  Neither person was wearing a seat belt at the time, the FHP said.

Two people in the sedan were seriously injured.  The female driver was taken to an area hospital, and her passenger, a 7-year-old Deltona girl, was transported to UF Health Shands Hospital.

The FHP and Marion County Fire Rescue responded to the scene.  All lanes of State Road 40 were shut down for the crash response and investigation.

The names of the individuals involved in the crash were not released by the Florida Highway Patrol.
