GROVELAND, FL – A single-vehicle accident in Lake County last week claimed the life of the driver, the Leesburg News reports.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the crash happened in the vicinity of County Road Road 33 and Odom Lane near Mascotte Friday shortly before 5:30 p.m.

State troopers said a 23-year-old man was driving a Chevy Monte Carlo when he drove off the roadway and collided with a utility pole.

The driver, a Groveland resident, was pronounced dead after being taken to Blue Cedar Hospital.  He was wearing his seat belt, troopers said.

County Road 33 was closed from Simon Brown Road to Bridges Road for about four hours while the crash was being investigated.
