PASCO COUNTY, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol said a pickup truck and an SUV were involved in a deadly crash on U.S. Highway 19 in Pasco County.
The Tampa Bay Times reports the accident happened near the intersection with Sea Ranch Drive. According to the FHP, a man driving an SUV north on U.S. 19 made a left turn into the path of a pickup truck, which collided with the SUV. The pickup ended up on the west shoulder of the roadway while the SUV went into the grass median following the impact.
The SUV driver, a 79-year-old New Port Richey man, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt. The driver of the pickup, a 35-year-old man, and three passengers, a 30-year-old woman and two girls ages 4 and 8, suffered minor injuries. The four occupants of the pickup, all Spring Hill residents, were reported to have been wearing their seatbelts.
The Times report noted that U.S. 19 is considered a hazardous roadway with at least 16 fatalities resulting from accidents in Pasco County since the beginning of 2023.
