News: Man sentenced for leaving scene of crash in the Villages

HAWKINS, FL – A man was sentenced in connection with a hit-and-run crash in the Villages last month, reports The Villages-News.

36-year-old Mark Regan of Pennsylvania was arrested on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident after the incident that occurred May 1 in the area of State Road 44 and Powell Road.

Police said Regan was driving a Mazda 3 when he struck the back of a trailer being towed by a truck at about 3 p.m.

The truck driver said Regan pulled into the median after the crash but did not try to exchange information and suddenly left the scene heading west on State Road 44.

The truck driver contacted police with the Pennsylvania license plate of the Mazda.  It was learned that Regan, who was visiting his father in The Villages, had a doctor’s appointment at Freedom Plaza.  It was there that police located the Mazda.

Regan entered a plea of no contest during an appearance last week in Sumter County Court. He was placed on six months probation and ordered to perform 20 hours of community service.
