MARION COUNTY, FL – A man has been sentenced to life in prison for causing a fatal crash in Marion County on Nov. 7, 2019, the Ocala StarBanner reports.

The sentence was handed down Monday for 52-year-old Stephen Douglas Lynn of Ocala.   The accident happened at the intersection of County Road 484 and Southeast 36th Avenue.  Authorities said Lynn ws behind the wheel of a pickup truck when he went through a stop light at that location.

The pickup T-boned a Suzuki Vitara driven by 71-year-old Emilio Nunez, who had picked up his two granddaughters from school and was heading home.  Nunez and the two girls, ages 9 and 7, were killed in the wreck.

A blood sample showed Lynn was driving under the influence of methamphetamine and two other substances at the time of the accident.  Lynn entered a plea of no contest in November.

After hearing testimony, Marion County Circuit Judge Peter Brigham sentenced Lynn to the life prison term on three counts of DUI manslaughter along with other traffic offenses.
