GAINESVILLE, FL – A car accident on Interstate 75 near Gainesville sent three people to the hospital, Main Street Daily News reported.

The crash occurred at about 10:24 a.m. Saturday on I-75 north in the vicinity of mile marker 390.  The Florida Highway Patrol said a man was driving a sedan and had to swerve when a large box containing an AC coil fell from a pickup truck.

The sedan crashed into a tree on the east shoulder of the interstate.    Two passengers in the sedan, a 23-year-old woman from Gainesville and a 26-year-old man from Norfolk, Virginia, were hospitalized with critical injuries.  The driver, a 25-year-old Gainesville man, was listed in serious condition after being taken to an area trauma center.

GAINESVILLE, FL – Police said a teenage girl riding a bicycle was injured in an accident in Gainesville last week.

WCJB reports the incident happened Tuesday afternoon near the intersection of Northwest 13th Street and 93rd Avenue.  According to Gainesville police, the teen was riding her bike at that location at about 3:30 p.m. when she was struck by a pickup truck.  She was transported to an area trauma center with serious injuries.

The driver of the pickup remained at the scene following the crash.

ALACHUA, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol said an accident on Interstate 75 left a woman dead and a child injured on Monday morning, reports the Alachua Chronicle.

The FHP’s investigation determined that a 63-year-old Gainesville woman was driving a Nissan SUV north on I-75 at about 7:30 a.m. when the vehicle swerved off the right side of the roadway near the 402 mile marker.  The SUV struck a large tree and overturned.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.  Her passenger, a 3-month-old boy, sustained minor injuries and was taken to UF Health Shands for treatment.  They were both restrained with a seat belt or child restraint.

GAINESVILLE, FL – Authorities said a man trying to elude police crashed into a Gainesville Police Department vehicle late Tuesday night.

According to a WCJB report, the incident began when Gainesville police officers attempted a traffic stop on 21-year-old Robert Rodriguez on Northeast Third Place at 11 p.m.  Police said Rodriguez took off and fled onto Northeast Waldo Road.  At that point he collided with a Gainesville patrol vehicle that was waiting at a red light.

An officer inside the patrol vehicle was trapped and extricated by firefighters.  The officer was treated and released from the hospital after sustaining injuries that were not life-threatening.

GAINESVILLE, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol released details of a fatal wreck that occurred in Gainesville early Sunday morning.

The Ocala StarBanner reports a pickup truck driver was headed north on Interstate 75 when the crash occurred at about 12:25 a.m.

According to the FHP, the driver was going at a high rate of speed when he took the Williston Road exit ramp and was unable to negotiate the curve.

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol said a two-vehicle collision in Alachua County claimed the life of an elderly driver.

According to the Alachua Chronicle, the incident occurred Feb. 10 near the intersection of U.S Highway 441 and County Road 237.

State troopers said an 88-year-old woman was driving a sedan south on County Road 237 shortly before 7 p.m. when she pulled out onto the northbound lanes of U.S. 441.  The sedan entered the path of a northbound pickup truck and the vehicles collided.

GAINESVILLE, FL – A driver died after his vehicle was involved in a collision at an intersection in Gainesville on Thursday night, according to a report in the Gainesville Sun.

State troopers said the driver of a Ford sedan failed to stop at a stop sign at State Road 24 and Northeast 63rd Avenue at about 7:23 p.m.  The Ford then entered the path of a Nissan sedan going north on State Road 24, and the front of the Nissan hit the left side of the Ford.

The driver of the Ford, a 62-year-old Tampa man, was pronounced dead after being taken to UF Health Shands Hospital.  A passenger in his vehicle, a 44-year-old Gainesville woman, was listed in critical condition.  The driver of the Nissan, a 29-year-old man from Gainesville, was in serious condition at the same hospital.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A motorcycle accident in northwest Gainesville on Tuesday afternoon claimed the life of a college student, according to a WCJB report.

The crash took place along Northwest 16th Boulevard near 38th Street.  An investigation by the Gainesville Police Department found the motorcyclist was traveling east at high speed at about 4 p.m. when he struck an unknown object.

The motorcycle crashed and the victim, reported to be a Santa Fe college student, was pronounced dead at the scene.  Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the crash.

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL – Two vehicles were involved in a fatal collision in Alachua County on Saturday morning, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

According to a WJXT report, the drivers of a 2000 Honda sedan and a 2015 Toyota sedan were going in opposite directions on State Road 121 in Gainesville at about 6:15 a.m.  The vehicles collided just south of NW 177th Avenue.

The driver of the Honda, a 53-year-old woman, was declared dead at the scene.  The driver of the Toyota, a 22-year-old man, was seriously injured and transported to an area hospital.

GAINESVILLE, FL – Gainesville police announced an arrest in the case of a pedestrian who was struck by a car near the University of Florida.

According to the Gainesville Sun, 73-year-old Betty Jean Alexander-Bacon of Lake Butler faces a felony charge for a hit-and-run.

Authorities said Alexander-Bacon was driving at around midnight on Thursday when she struck the pedestrian who was crossing the street in the 1300 block of West University Avenue.  The victim was taken to UF Health Shands Hospital for treatment.  No details were immediately released on the person’s condition.
