SUMMERFIELD, FL – One man was killed and another injured in a pedestrian collision in Marion County on Friday afternoon, reports the Ocala StarBanner.

The Florida Highway Patrol and Marion County Fire Rescue were dispatched to the crash in the 15200 block of U.S. 441 south in Summerfield at 1:19 p.m.

The FHP’s investigation indicated that a man was walking south on U.S. 441 while pushing a shopping cart near the right side of the highway’s white line.  At the same time, the driver of a Chevrolet Silverado hauling a trailer was heading southbound.  The pedestrian was struck by the front of the pickup truck, and the impact knocked him into the grassy shoulder on the west side of the road.

SUMMERFIELD, FL – A motorcycle accident in Marion County last Monday night, March 3, left a rider dead, according to the Villages News.

The crash occurred on U.S. 301 near County Road 42 in Summerfield, near The Villages.  The Florida Highway Patrol said the motorcyclist was riding on U.S. 301 shortly before 11:30 p.m. when he failed to maintain a lane and collided with a concrete curb.  The rider lost control, and the motorcycle overturned, then landed on the center median of U.S. 301.

The motorcyclist, a 50-year-old man from Penobscot, Maine, was pronounced dead after being taken to Ocala Regional Medical Center.  He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, the FHP said.

SUMMERFIELD, FL – A two-vehicle collision in Marion County on Sunday morning left one of the drivers dead, reports the Ocala StarBanner.

The Florida Highway Patrol said a Hyundai Elantra and a Ford Escape were involved in the wreck, which took place at about 8:45 a.m.  The FHP’s investigation determined that the Elantra driver was stopped at a red flashing light on Southeast 147th Street, then turned left to go onto U.S. 301 South.  The Escape was heading south on U.S. 301, and collided with the Elantra.  The back of the Escape then struck a tree, which fell on top of the vehicle.

The Escape driver, a 53-year-old man from Summerfield, died at the scene.  The Elantra driver, a 78-year-old Summerfield man, declined medical treatment.

BELLEVIEW, FL – One man was killed and another injured when their motorcycles collided in Marion County Saturday night.

According to a report by WKMG, the two motorcyclists were both headed south on SE 100th Avenue near Belleview at 11:50 p.m.  The Florida Highway Patrol said one of the riders approached the other that was going more slowly and struck the bike from behind, causing both motorcycles to overturn.

The first motorcyclist, a 63-year-old Weirsdale man, was pronounced dead at the scene.  The other rider, a 55-year-old Summerfield man, was seriously injured and taken to a hospital.
