News: 2 killed when Tesla slams into parked tractor-trailer at Gainesville rest area

GAINESVILLE, FL – State troopers said a car accident at a rest area along Interstate 75 Wednesday left two people dead.

According to WGFL, the incident took place on I-75 south near mile marker 382 in Gainesville at about 2 p.m.

The Florida Highway Patrol said a 66-year-old woman was driving a Tesla sedan and coming off an exit ramp when she entered the rest area parking lot and crashed into the back of a parked tractor-trailer.

The woman and her passenger, a 67-year-old man, were killed in the wreck. Both were residents of Lompoc, California.

The area was shut down to traffic for about six hours while the crash scene was being cleared and investigated.
