News: Resident of the Villages fatally struck by vehicle near hospital

SUMTER COUNTY, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol was at the scene of a fatal pedestrian accident in Sumter County on Monday morning.

The Villages-News reports the incident took place on U.S. Highway 27/441 in Lady Lake at about 5 a.m.

Authorities said a 52-year-old man wandered away from UF Health-The Villages Hospital, where he had reportedly been a patient.  The man walked into the northbound lanes of the highway and was struck by a vehicle driven by a 20-year-old Mississippi woman.  It was not known why he was walking in that area.

The man, a resident of the Lady Lake portion of the Villages, was pronounced dead at the scene.  The victim’s identity was not immediately released.
