MARION COUNTY, FL – A car accident involving an alleged drunk in Marion County killed a passenger in the vehicle, reports WKMG.
The Florida Highway Patrol was dispatched to the fatal wreck early Saturday morning along State Road 35 near SE 102 Place Road in Belleview. The FHP’s preliminary investigation indicated that the driver of a sedan failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway while heading south on S.R. 35 at about 2:30 a.m.
The car went off the road and onto the grass shoulder before crashing into a wooden fence and a large tree.
A passenger, a 27-year-old Ocala man, was ejected from the vehicle and died after being taken to an area hospital. The driver, a 28-year-old woman from Belleview, was arrested to face a charge of DUI manslaughter. She sustained minor injuries in the crash.
It was believed that the woman was wearing a seat belt but the man was not, state troopers said.
