OCALA, FL – Police announced the arrest of an alleged drunk driver in connection with a fatal wreck that occurred in Ocala on Wednesday night.

WKMG reports the suspect was identified as 44-year-old Tiara Kirkland.  Ocala police said she was behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Spark heading south on North Pine Avenue at about 7:45 p.m.

Investigators learned that Kirkland turned into the path of a Toyota Scion and a Honda Civic which were both traveling north.

OCALA, FL – Police said a teenager has been arrested on charges stemming from a fatal car accident in Ocala that occurred on Feb. 20.

In a news release, the Ocala Police Department said the 17-year-old suspect has been charged with DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide in connection with the accident near the 1500 block of SE 36th Avenue.

Investigators said the teen driver was driving a Mercedes SUV at over 120 miles per hour moments before the wreck with no evidence of braking.  The Mercedes crashed into the back of a Mazda, causing it to strike a concrete utility pole.  The Mazda returned to the roadway, overturned and caught fire.

OCALA, FL – One person was killed and another injured in a collision at an intersection in Ocala early Sunday morning, police said.

In a post on Facebook, the Ocala Police Department said the crash occurred in the vicinity of SW College Road and SW 17th Street at about 1:37 a.m.  An investigation indicated that the driver of an Audi was headed west on SW State Road 200 and trying to turn left onto SW 17th Street on an unprotected green light.

At the same time, the operator of a Harley Davidson was heading east in the inside lane of SW SR-200 and entering the intersection on a solid green light.  As the Audi turned, it entered the path of the motorcycle and the vehicles collided.  The motorcyclist, an 18-year-old Dunnellon man, was pronounced dead at the scene.  He was wearing a helmet at the time, police said.

MARION COUNTY, FL – A single-vehicle accident in Marion County on Sunday morning claimed the life of an elderly driver, according to a WKMG report.

The crash happened on southbound NW 80th Avenue near NW 100th Street.  The Florida Highway Patrol’s investigation found a man was driving a pickup truck that was pulling a utility trailer when he drove off the road at about 10:20 a.m.  The vehicle collided with a tree on the east shoulder of the roadway.

The driver, an 82-year-old man from Ocala, died at the scene.

MARION COUNTY, FL – State troopers said a Marion County sanitation worker was killed in an accident on Tuesday morning, according to WKMG.

It happened as the worker was loading garbage within the Spruce Creek subdivision on Southeast 108th Terrace.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the man was hit by a tire from the garbage truck at about 9 a.m.  The worker, a 25-year-old Ocala man, was pronounced dead by Marion County Fire Rescue.

MARION COUNTY, FL – A Marion County school bus was struck from behind by a vehicle on County Road 326 on Thursday morning, WKMG reports.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the bus was heading east at about 9 a.m. when the driver slowed down for a bus stop ahead of it just east of County Road 225A.

The driver of an eastbound Mercedes Benz failed to slow down or stop and crashed into the rear of the bus.  50 students were on board at the time.  The students were evaluated at the scene for minor complaints, but no one had to go to the hospital.

OCALA, FL – State troopers said they are searching for the driver of a tractor-trailer following a fatal crash in Marion County last month, WKMG reports.

The incident took place March 20 along I-75 south about four miles north of State Road 326.  The Florida Highway Patrol determined that a van had become disabled in the center lane of the interstate at about 10 p.m. as the result of a prior collision with a tractor-trailer.

Another driver heading south on I-75 did not see the van in time and crashed into the back of it.  The 71-year-old van driver died after being taken to an area hospital.  His five passengers, three women and two men all in their 70s, were hospitalized with serious injuries.  All occupants of the van were from Ocala.

MARION COUNTY, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol and Marion County Fire Rescue responded to the scene a fatal single-vehicle accident on County Road 328 Thursday morning.

According to the Ocala StarBanner, a woman was driving an older model Chevy Blazer westbound shortly before 10:12 a.m. when the vehicle veered off the roadway near West State Road 40.  The Blazer crashed into a speed sign, a fence, and a tree.

The driver, a 55-year-old woman, was extricated from the SUV by rescue crews.  She was pronounced dead after being taken to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital.

DAVENPORT, FL – State troopers are searching for the driver responsible for the death of an Ocala man who was riding a bicycle last week, WKMG reports.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the incident, which took place March 26 on Davenport Boulevard near U.S. 27.  The FHP said the bicyclist was riding toward Davenport at about 11:30 p.m. when he was overtaken and hit by a black Dodge Challenger heading eastbound.

The 27-year-old bicyclist died after being transported to an area hospital.  Investigators said the Dodge driver left the scene of the crash.

OCALA, FL – Three people were injured after a collision at an Ocala intersection on Tuesday morning, reports WCJB.

First responders were called to the scene in the area of Northeast 40th Avenue Road and Northeast 36th Avenue.  The incident involved a sport utility and a pickup truck, according to fire rescue crews.  The vehicles collided and the pickup overturned as a result.

A child was extricated from the SUV and was rushed to an area hospital, along with two other injured victims.  No details were immediately released on their conditions.
