by

OCALA, FL – One elderly motorcyclist was killed and another was injured when their vehicles collided on a rural stretch of highway about 10 miles northeast of Ocala on Tuesday.

The Ocala Star-Banner reports that a group of motorcyclists was traveling west in a single-file line on Northeast 90th Street Road near Baseline Road shortly before 11:30 a.m. that morning, when a 74-year-old man lost control of his bike during a turn, briefly left the roadway, and then swerved back onto it. In doing so, he struck a motorcycle operated by an 80-year-old man, which caused the vehicles to overturn.

Emergency responders took both men to Ocala Regional Medical Center, where the older rider died.

The other man is expected to survive.

The initial collision led to a second crash involving riders of the same group. Fortunately, no one was injured as a result of the subsequent incident.
