LEESBURG, FL – Authorities said a driver was rushed to the hospital following a high-speed collision in Leesburg on Monday night.

According to the Daily Commercial, a young man was driving a Jaguar at a speed estimated at over 100 miles an hour when the incident occurred at about 6:25 p.m. in the area of Martin Luther King Drive and U.S. Highway 441/27.  The Jaguar collided with a Cadillac Escalade at the intersection and then struck the side of the Northgate Animal Clinic, where it came to rest.  Car parts were scattered throughout the area.

The Jaguar driver, reported to be 18 years old, was extricated from the wreck and flown to Ocala Regional Medical Center.  No details were available on his condition.  A witness said two people in the Cadillac, a man and a woman, did not appear to have been injured.

BROOKSVILLE,FL – The Florida Highway Patrol released details of a fatal pickup truck crash that occurred on Sunday afternoon.

The Suncoast News reports the accident happened on Preston Road at about 3:37 p.m.  According to state troopers, a 54-year-old man was driving south in a Ford F-350 pickup when he lost control of the vehicle near Outback Way.   The pickup went onto the shoulder of the roadway, then collided with  a wooden pole, a mailbox and a utility pole before rolling over.

The driver, a Brooksville resident, was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital.

BROOKSVILLE, FL – The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office said a deadly car accident caused a power outage on Sunday.

The sheriff’s office posted on Facebook that the incident shut down Preston Road between Mondon Hill Road and Richbarn Road.  WFLA reported that a driver was killed after crashing into an electrical pole in Brooksville.

The accident reportedly left over 50 people without power in the area.  Utility crews arrived at the scene to repair the damage and restore power to those affected.  Drivers were advised to seek alternate routes.

PASCO COUNTY, FL – A driver died after his pickup truck crashed in Pasco County early Friday morning, according to a report in the Suncoast News.

The 26-year-old victim was driving west on Kitten Trail near Dennis Drive when the accident occurred. The Florida Highway Patrol said the man was negotiating a right curve when he veered into the eastbound lane, over-corrected and lost control.

The pickup truck entered a grass shoulder of the roadway, crashed into a concrete wall and overturned, ejecting the driver.

HERNANDO CO., FL – A single-vehicle crash in the Spring Hill area on Sunday night claimed the life of a Hudson woman.

According to a report by the Tampa Free Press, the unidentified woman was heading west on Spring Hill Dive when she lost control of her vehicle near Newhope Road around 7 p.m. The vehicle served off the roadway and slammed into a tree.

The driver was taken to a nearby hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries later on.

PASCO COUNTY, FL – A driver died after his van was involved in a collision with a tractor-trailer in Pasco County Tuesday afternoon, reports The Free Press.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the two vehicles were going in opposite directions on Bellamy Brothers Boulevard near Johnston Road at about 1:11 p.m.

As the van driver negotiated a right-hand curve in the road, the vehicle entered the path of the tractor-trailer and hit the truck on the left side.  The van then rotated to a stop in the southbound lane.

PUTNAM COUNTY, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol said a man riding a moped was killed in an accident in Putnam County Monday morning.

According to WJXT, state troopers responded to the scene in the area of State Road 20 and Wippletree Road in Interlachen after the incident took place at about 11:19 a.m.

Investigators said an SUV and a moped were both headed west on State Road 20 when the SUV struck the rear of the moped.

HERNANDO COUNTY, FL – A single-vehicle accident in Hernando County early Tuesday morning left a driver dead, according to state troopers.

The Suncoast News reports the crash occurred on U.S. 41 near Southern Hills Boulevard at about 2:30 a.m.

The Florida Highway Patrol said a woman lost control of a sedan while driving south on U.S. 41 and crossed the center median.  Her vehicle entered the opposite shoulder, hit a ditch and then crashed into a tree.

SUMTER COUNTY, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol said a rollover accident in Sumter County claimed the life of a driver, reports the Villages-News.

According to the FHP, a 22-year-old woman was driving a pickup truck on State Road 44 near County Road 243 west of Wildwood when the crash occurred Friday morning at 11:10 a.m.

Investigators said the woman was unable to negotiate a curve in the roadway, causing her vehicle to enter the median and overturn.  The woman, a Wildwood resident, was ejected from the pickup and killed.  Her name was not released. State troopers said she was not wearing a seat belt at the time.

PASCO COUNTY, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol said one person was killed and several others injured in a collision in Pasco County on Friday night.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, the incident took place on U.S. 19 north of Eden Avenue shortly before 11 p.m.

State troopers said a 27-year-old Hudson woman lost control of her sedan while driving south on the highway, swerved across a median and entered the path of a northbound sedan, causing a crash.
