OCALA, FL – The Ocala Police Department was called to the scene of a fatal railroad accident on Thursday afternoon, WKMG reports.

The incident happened near the 2000 block of NE 19th Avenue in northeast Ocala, where officers arrived at the scene at about 12:30 p.m.

Police said a man was struck at the railroad crossing by an eastbound CSX train going from Lakeland to Jacksonville. The 33-year-old pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.  His name was not immediately released.

OCALA, FL – A tractor-trailer accident in Ocala Monday night left a driver injured and caused shutdowns on U.S. 27, WKMG reported.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the 38-year-old truck driver was headed south on Interstate 75 at about 11:15 p.m. and was trying to change lanes when he hit a vehicle in the next lane that he had failed to observe.

When the truck driver swerved to his right, he struck a concrete barrier wall on the shoulder, causing the trailer to detach from the cab and roll over the wall.  The trailer spilled rock-form sulfur onto U.S. 27.

OCALA, FL – A driver was critically injured when his car struck a pole in Marion County Monday morning, WCJB reported.

The incident shut down the southbound lane of Baseline Road and SE 24th Street as first responders and utility crews responded to the situation.

According to investigators, the driver of an SUV was traveling at a high rate of speed at about 9:15 a.m. when he collided with a concrete pole, causing the pole to fall onto the car.

OCALA, FL – First responders were called to the scene of a multi-vehicle accident in Ocala on Wednesday afternoon.

According to a Facebook post by Ocala Fire Rescue, units were dispatched to SW 60th Avenue and SW 38th Street at about 3:50 p.m. after a report of a collision.

A sedan and a pickup truck were found upright with moderate front-end damage while a third vehicle, another pickup truck, was on its side with the driver trapped inside.

OCALA, FL – Rush-hour traffic was snarled on Interstate 75 in Ocala Tuesday morning following multiple truck accidents, according to WKMG.

Two of the crashes, involving a pickup truck and a semi-truck, occurred on I-75 north shortly after 6 a.m.  No one was injured in either incident.

A few hours later, a third collision involved a pickup truck and a semi near the overpass for Highway 27 on I-75 south.  The pickup driver was thrown from the overturned vehicle and was hospitalized.  No details were released on the person’s condition.  The semi jackknifed as a result of the crash.

OCALA, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol said a moped rider died following an accident in Marion County early Thursday morning.

According to WKMG, the incident took place on U.S. 441 south of SE 98 Lane.  The FHP said a 19-year-old woman was riding her moped on a paved shoulder of southbound U.S. 441 when she entered a construction zone.

The woman lost control of the moped and it overturned.  She was ejected into the right lane of U.S. 441, where she was struck by an SUV.  The victim, an Ocala resident, was pronounced dead at the scene.

OCALA, FL – Marion County Fire Rescue responded to the scene of a rollover accident in Ocala on Tuesday afternoon.

In a Facebook post, the rescue squad said its units were dispatched to the 7200 block of NW 21st Street at about 4:45 p.m.  A vehicle had come to rest on its roof at that location with the driver trapped inside.

Officials said Engine and Rescue 20 crews arrived on the scene within minutes and began working to extricate the driver from the wreckage.   The driver was quickly freed and was declared a trauma alert, and was transported to an area hospital.  No further details were released on the victim’s condition.

OCALA, FL – A single-vehicle accident in Marion County Wednesday morning left a driver dead, WKMG reports.

The Florida Highway Patrol said a man was driving south on Interstate 75 near mile marker 346 in Ocala when the crash occurred at about 2:50 a.m.

An investigation determined that the driver was going at a high rate of speed in his SUV when he went off the roadway and collided with a guardrail in the median.  The vehicle went back into the roadway and overturned, and the driver was ejected.  The victim, a 26-year-old man from Ocala, was pronounced dead at the scene.  Authorities did not disclose his identity.

OCALA, FL – An elderly man was killed and two others were hospitalized following a three-vehicle crash southwest of Ocala this morning.

According to Ocala-News, the collision occurred at about 7:10 a.m. when the driver of a northbound sedan ran the red light at SW 80th Avenue and State Road 200 and was hit by the front end of an SUV as it entered the intersection.

The force of the impact rotated the SUV before it was hit by a nearby pickup truck.

OCALA, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol said a man died after being involved in a motorcycle accident in northeast Ocala last week, Ocala-News.com reports.

The motorcyclist was riding eastbound on State Road 326 on the  morning of May 17 when the incident occurred at about 10:55 a.m.  According to the FHP, the driver of a pickup truck was going north on NE 25th Avenue and as he approached the stop sign at the intersection he failed to observe the oncoming motorcycle.

The investigation indicated that the pickup truck entered the path of the motorcycle and the bike hit the rear of the pickup.  The motorcycle overturned and the rider, a 66-year-old Ocklawaha man, was ejected.  The victim was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead on Sunday.
